Membership

Membership of the BDU costs just £10 per academic year.

In return the Society will cover registration fees at debating competitions, hold weekly training sessions and regular socials.

Why Debate?

Debating develops numerous skills including:

• Communication and public speaking – the ability to speak in a coherent and persuasive manner
• Logical thinking and analysis
• Confidence
• Flexibility – the ability to respond to unexpected challenges
• Time management
• Teamwork
• Working under pressure
• Knowledge of current affairs
• Thinking outside of the box

These are the kind of skills that employers look for when recruiting, and the BDU will provide you with lots of help in marketing them to employers. They are also relevant to the academic work you will encounter at University and may help to improve your essays.
